Kelly (she/her)

I am an Educational and Developmental Psychologist with a background in private practice, education, and outpatient mental health settings. I typically work with adolescents and young adults up to age 35. I often work systemically, if appropriate, by inviting their caregiver, family or school system into the therapy process.

My therapeutic approach:

In therapy, I seek to form the kind of relationship where we feel, see and understand what brings you to therapy as the things that make you human. Our work together is about feeling and thinking, making it difficult to tangibly measure.

I believe that organising the unspeakable, hidden-away parts of us into a cohesive, speakable picture is the catalyst to creating a personally meaningful life. I wish for all my patients to feel and know my belief in their intrinsic gifts and share in my experience of seeing them as whole, solid and capable.

My therapeutic approach is primarily influenced by attachment theory, and I invite emotions with historic, relational roots that have likely been with you for some time. It is typically a longer-term treatment but may also be helpful for those seeking short-term support. I generally see patients on a fortnightly basis though it is not uncommon to meet weekly if practical and feasible.

About you:

My patients are often those who experience themselves as different, flawed, defective or trapped by their own mind or habits. They might experience others and the world as fearsome, despite being aware of their intense longing to belong. They often feel anxious starting therapy and experience discomfort taking up space in the mind of someone else, commonly for the first time.

Patients of mine often experience:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Low or mixed moods
  • General or specific anxiety
  • Trauma including complex post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Challenging or complex early life experiences
  • Difficulty making sense of their child’s needs and behaviour
  • Neurodiversity including girls and women with autism or ADHD.

Assessment

I offer full psycho-educational assessment to diagnose learning disorders, intellectual functioning and ADHD for children aged 6 years or older.

Supervision

I provide supervision to psychologists and counsellors. I can provide secondary supervision to psychologists completing the educational and developmental registrar program.
